The piano department at UNCSA attracts highly talented young pianists from around the world. The vibrant UNCSA artistic community provides an ideal setting for artistic growth in an environment where musicians, dancers, actors, designers and filmmakers live and work together. The conservatory setting of UNCSA provides opportunities for students to work seriously in developing their musicianship and technique. Internationally renowned guest artists regularly appear on campus with recitals, lectures and master classes. Piano faculty and the UNCSA Touring Office are dedicated to helping students with off-campus performances, job placement and preparing for competitions.
The piano faculty is committed to preparing well-rounded, versatile soloists and collaborators who will excel in today’s competitive music world. Our graduates have earned top prizes in many national and international competitions; they regularly appear on international concert stages and teach at prestigious schools and universities worldwide.

In their own words…
“Being at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a student was an amazing experience. You always had the opportunity to perform. Our studio was like a family - we knew each other very well. UNCSA seems to have some kind of magnet that keeps you wanting to come back--I was at the Manhattan School of Music for two years and finally realized how many great things the School of the Arts has. All the students I know seem very happy here. It's a great place!”
- Dmitri Vorobiev, UNCSA Piano alum, winner, Casagrande International Piano Competition, UNISA International Piano Competition and the New Orleans International Piano Competition. Professor of Piano, University of Northern Iowa.
